At the end of each level, students are expected to meet the following requirements.
Level – 0 (Balanandam)
- By singing and dancing the famous telugu folklore creating interest towards mother tongue telugu for children
- Able to answer and question the basic needs and developing the vocabulary
- Able to understand words by listening to stories and reuse the terminology
- Without exams and homework the children only spend time in the classrooms with the teacher volunteer to speak and answer in telugu
- Painting the telugu alphabet and through which able to recognize the alphabets.
First Level
Telugu Alphabet
- Identify and write each letter in achchulu and hallulu
Vocabulary
- For each letter, able to say at least one word that starts with or has the letter in it. No need to write the full word.
- Numbers from 1-100
- Weekdays, colors, animals, things in and around the house, relations. Vocabulary may be limited to those covered in the class.
Speaking
- Able to translate simple and small sentences from English to Telugu
- Memorize and recite at least one ‘podupu katha’ (riddle)
- Memorize and recite at least one ‘padyam’ (poem)
Second Level
Students are expected to meet all first level requirements before registering for second level.
Speak in Telugu
- Be able to talk about common daily activities.
- Translate English sentences/phrases into Telugu
- Memorize and recite at least two ‘podupu kathalu’ (riddles)
- Memorize and recite at least two ‘padyamulu’ (poems)
Write in Telugu
- Listen to simple words and write them (dictation). The words for dictation/translation are picked from the word family provided to the students in classes. These include words formed using gunintamulu and vattulu
Read in Telugu
- Read simple phrases/sentences in Telugu. These include words formed using gunintamulu and vattulu
Vocabulary
In addition to the above, students are expected to know, in Telugu, body parts, tastes, month names, seasons (rutuvulu), relations, etc.
Third Level
Students are expected to meet all second level requirements before registering for third level.
Speak in Telugu
- Be able to describe an activity or an event in Telugu
- Translate English sentences into Telugu
- Memorize and recite at least 5 ‘podupu kathalu’ (riddles)
- Memorize and recite at least 5 ‘padyamulu’ (poems)
Write in Telugu
- Listen to Telugu sentences and write them (dictation).
- Write small stories/essays in Telugu.
Read in Telugu
- Read and understand simple stories and essays and answer comprehension questions.
- Read books written in simple Telugu.
